Why Every Second Counts

According to research by the Warwick Clinical Trials Unit in collaboration with the National Ambulance Service Medical Directors, around 80,000 people in the UK suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year. Ambulance personnel attempt resuscitation in approximately 30,000 of these cases. Following the Chain of Survival,as outlined by the Resuscitation Council UK, is the single most effective way to turn bystanders into rescuers.

Call for Help (999)

Recognising the signs of cardiac arrest and calling 999 immediately activates the emergency response system and gets professional help on the way.

Immediate CPR

Chest compressions keep blood and oxygen flowing to vital organs. Effective CPR means pressing hard and fast in the centre of the chest, aiming for 100–120 beats per minute.

Early Defibrillation

Only a defibrillator (AED) can restore a normal heart rhythm in certain cardiac arrests. Public access AEDs are designed to guide anyone, trained or untrained, through the process safely and quickly.

Post Resuscitation Care

Once paramedics arrive, they provide advanced life support and transport the patient to the hospital, where specialist teams deliver ongoing care to give the best chance of survival and recovery.

With an AED close by, every link in the Chain of Survival becomes stronger, empowering schools, workplaces, and communities to save lives.
